The Dance Project at City Arts provides comprehensive training for people of all ages and skill levels in a non-competitive, nurturing atmosphere that fosters growth, a healthy lifestyle, self-esteem and artistry.

Creative Movement I
Ages 3 - 4 yrs & 4 - 5
This class offers a fun introduction to dance, encouraging a growing awareness of the body as a means of
expression. Students will learn spatial awareness, musicality and abstract movement through vivid
imagery and activities. Props will be used to encourage balance, coordination and a general sense of fun.
Interactive Music is used to enhance the learning experience. Students will be introduced to basic ballet
vocabulary through the use of movement stories and imagery.
Class Attire: comfortable clothes, leotard (any color), footless tights, no shoes needed
Creative Movement II
Ages 4 - 5
Students will build upon skills learned in Creative Movement I. Creative Movement II will work more on
social interaction and collaboration. Students will continue to build both fine and gross motor skills
through more specific guided movements such as skipping, hopping on one foot and leaps. Students will
be introduced to new vocabulary as their understanding and readiness increases.
Class Attire: comfortable clothes, leotard (any color), footless tights, no shoes needed
Pre Ballet
Ages 6 - 8 yrs
Dancers learn the basics of ballet technique. Students will work on arm placement, basic positions, ballet
vocabulary and coordination.
Class Attire: leotard (any color), tights (optional), ballet shoes
Beginning Ballet
Ages 8 – 11 yrs
Students will explore the basics of ballet technique. Emphasis will be placed on proper alignment,
musicality, flexibility and strength. Class will consist of barré work, across the floor and short center
sequences.
Class Attire: leotard (any color), tights, ballet shoes, ballet skirt (optional)
Intermediate Ballet
Ages 9 - 12 yrs
This class builds on the basics from beginning ballet. Students will increase their skill level with more
challenging steps and sequences. Class will consist of barré work, across the floor and center sequences.
Class Attire: leotard (any color), tights, ballet shoes, ballet skirt (optional)
Beginning Ballet/Pre-Pointe
Ages 13 - 16 yrs
This class is for students beginning students who are interested in increasing strength and coordination
necessary for pointe. Students will work on overall strength, coordination and flexibility. Class will
consist of barre work, across the floor and center sequences.
Beginning Jazz
Ages 9 - 12This class will explore different styles of jazz including classical and contemporary. Students will learn
the basics of jazz technique including leaps, turns and dynamic combinations. Emphasis will be placed of
rhythm, dynamics and personal style. Class will increase student's flexibility, strength and coordination
through various combinations and exercises.
Class Attire: leotard, fitted pants (jazz or yoga), jazz shoes (oxfords or jazz sneakers)
Beginning/Intermediate Jazz
Ages 13 - 16 yrs
This class will explore different styles of jazz including classical and contemporary. Students will learn
the basics of jazz technique including leaps, turns and dynamic combinations. Emphasis will be placed of
rhythm, dynamics and personal style. Class will increase student's flexibility, strength and coordination
through various combinations and exercises

Beginning Tap
Ages 5 - 6 yrs
Students will learn basic tap vocabulary and steps. Emphasis will be placed on rhythm and coordination.
Students will learn simple steps across the floor and in the center.
Class Attire: leotard, fitted pants (jazz or yoga), and tap shoes
Intermediate Tap
Ages 9 - 12 yrs
Students will build on their basic tap skills to explore more complex rhythm structures and steps. Students
will learn longer movement sequences in the center and across the floor.
Class Attire: leotard, fitted pants (jazz or yoga), and tap shoes
Beginning/Intermediate Modern
Ages 13 - 16 yrs
Students will learn the basics of modern dance technique. Emphasis will be placed on body awareness,
moving through the space with ease, weight shifting and using oppositional body halves. Students will
increase coordination, improvement alignment and create a stronger mind/body connection. Class will
include warm-up, across the floor and center combinations.
Class Attire: leotard, fitted pants (jazz or yoga), no shoes
Beginning Modern/Lyrical
Ages 9 - 12 yrs
This class will be a fusion of modern and lyrical technnique. This is an expressive form of dance that
allows students to explore a variety of styles. Students will increase flexibility, overall strength and
performance presence.
Class Attire: leotard, fitted pants (jazz or yoga), no shoes
Musical Theater Jazz
Ages 14 - 16 yrs
Let your inner Broadway star shine! This class will focus on musical theater style jazz. Class will consist
of traditional jazz warm-up & across the floor. Students will learn sample phrases and combinations from
various musical. Great for musical theater actors who need dance training. No experience necessary.
Class Attire: leotard, fitted pant (jazz or yoga), jazz shoes or jazz sneakers
Adult Classes
Beginning Ballet
17 & up
This class in an introduction to classical ballet technique. Improves posture, strength coordination and
flexibility. Great exercise in a fun, low stress environment. Class will include barré work, across the floor
and center combinations. No experience needed!
Class Attire: comfortable fitted clothing - leotard, fitted tank, jazz pants, tights (optional), and ballet

Int/Adv Ballet
17 & up
This class is for students with prior ballet experience. Students will work on more complex turns, leaps
and combinations. Class will include barré work, across the floor and center combinations

involving weight shifting, moving quickly through space, and floor work. Students will increase

Jazz
Ages 17 & up
This class will explore different styles of jazz including classical and contemporary. Students will learn

through various combinations and exercises. No experience needed!

This class is for students with prior tap experience. Students will explore intricate rhythm tap
combinations and steps. Emphasis is placed on clean sounds and musicality.

Hip Hop
Ages 17 & up
Get a great workout with this high-energy class. This class is for students who want to explore a more
street/urban style of dance. Students will learn hip hop combinations and work on personal style &
expression.
Class Attire: leotard or fitted t-shirt, fitted pants (jazz or yoga), jazz shoes or jazz sneakers. Please do not
wear street shoes. They are bad for your knees & the dance floor.
Zumba
Ages 17 & up

and you've got a Zumba® class! Our classes incorporate dance styles such as: Salsa, Rumba,
Merengue, Samba, Cumbia, Mambo, Cha Cha, Flamenco, Tango, Calypso, Reggaeton, Hip-Hop,
Belly Dancing and many more!! Join the Party!
Class Attire: Comfortable athletic clothing & Tennis Shoes or Jazz Sneakers. Make sure to bring
a water bottle and towel.
